Just weeks before Manipur goes to the polls, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday suspended MLA Kh Joykisan Singh from the primary membership of Indian National Congress.
Joykisan was suspended on the recommendation of the Disciplinary Action Committee of MPCC, according to an order issued by MPCC general secretary (administration) Hareshwar Goshwami.
MLA Joykisan of Thangmeiband constituency has been absent from the functions and ceremonies organised by MPCC for quite some time. He also voiced his opinions in the media which were contradictory to the Congress in the past. These reasons amongst others might have led to his suspension from the party, said sources in the party.
On the other hand, political observers of the state maintained that his suspension from the Congress comes as no surprise and that it has been coming for quite some time.
The interesting development came as MPCC, like other political parties in the state, are preparing to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming election. The election committee of MPCC is holding meetings to send its recommended list of candidates to the All India Congress Committee for approval in the next few days, MPCC working president K Meghachandra had said on Monday.
