Kuki Chiefs’ Association (KCA) Tengnoupal on Wednesday announced a 24 hour bandh in the entire district from September 27 midnight in protest against the government’s alleged lackadaisical attitude towards the district.
In a statement issued by its general secretary LS Seikhojang Baite, Tengnoupal District KCA said the intention of this protest is not to cause misery to the general public but to draw seriousness of the Government towards the district.
Reminding the joint Press Release of KCA Tengnoupal District and other CSOs of the district regarding frequent transfer of Deputy Commissioners, the association said although the appointment of the present DC of Teagnoupal Praveen Singh IAS as Additional Chief Electoral Officer by the Government is not objected, but the frequent transfer of DC Tengnoupal was totally uncalled for.
“These frequent transfers have had serious implications towards the development and effective functioning of the district administration,” It added.
The association urged the Government to rescind its order in the interest of the public.
It may be noted that four DCs had been changed in the district since January 2021 and the present DC was also reported to be transferred soon.
KCA and other CSOs of Tengnoupal District had a joint meeting on September 12. Later they had issued a joint press statement on September 14 vehemently condemning the frequent transfer of Deputy Commissioner from Tengnoupal.
DC Tengnoupal H Rupachandra, IAS was transferred from the district in January 2021 and was replaced by M Rajkumar, IAS. On April 10, 2021, M Rajkumar was also replaced by Sharath Chandra Arroju, IAS. Moreover, Sharath Chandra Arroju was again replaced by the incumbent DC, Naorem Praveen, IAS on April 20.
Frequent transfers of DCs from Tengnoupal is allegedly hurting the interests of the district, as no officer is getting proper time to focus on the developmental needs of the area.
