KSO Sadar Hills declares 24-hour total shutdown on March 7

While recalling the police commando personnel’s disrespectful statement of KSO and civil society organizations, the KSO Sadar Hills also said that they will let the police commando know and hear the music of KSO and the civil society organizations.

In connection with the alleged assault of the general secretary of the Kuki Students’ Organisation, Sadar Hills by Manipur police on March 3 at Kalapahar, the KSO Sadar Hills decided to imposed 24 hours total shutdown in the Kangpokpi district from 5:00 am of March 7 till 5:00 am of March 8 alleging the government and authorities concerned failed to take appropriate action upon the commando personnel involved in the assault within the stipulated two days.

The KSO Sadar Hills backed up by its General Headquarters’ condemnation, demanded the removal of police commandos from the hill areas and appropriate action upon the commando personnel involved in assaulting the general secretary of KSO Sadar Hills within two days.

Songreng Kom, Spokesperson of KSO Sadar Hills said that as the government and authorities concerned have neglected our humble appeal to initiate appropriate action upon the commando personnel assaulting the general secretary without any reason and removal of the police commandos from the hill areas, “we have decided in an emergency meeting with our federating unit today, to imposed 24 hours total shutdown from 5:00 am of March 7 till 5:00 am of March 8”.

All transport, business establishment, government institutions, etc. shall be completely closed during the total shut down, he added.

He continued that in case the government and authorities concerned failed to deliver our demand even after resorting to total shut down, “we will decide further course of agitation which will be intensified in the strongest form in collaboration with the public and various other civil society organizations.”

He recalled that the general secretary of KSO Sadar Hills was allegedly assaulted by the police commando at Kalapahar on March 3 without any reason after he returned home from monitoring the construction work of KSO Sadar Hills administrative office building at Kangpokpi which resulted in ruptured eardrum of the student body’s leader.

The student body spokesperson also appeals to the general public and transport department to cooperate with them during the total shutdown.
