Protest by supporters of Lamtinthang Haokip

It was reported that Lamtinthang Haokip rushed to New Keithelmanbi Polling Station after hearing the news of booth capturing and snatching away of voters’ slips by suspected “armed militants”, said KSO. On reaching the spot, BJP supporters and the suspected militants attacked the INC candidate and his supporters which left the voters furious. “Even the security personnel deployed there threatened to shoot the INC candidate, which is a gross violation of human rights which further escalated to the destruction of EVM by unknown persons”, alleged KSO-GHQ.

The organisation said that the INC candidate was “wrongfully framed at the behest of BJP supporters” by New Keithelmanbi Police and “wrongfully detained” at Imphal Police Station till the release of this press note. “The Officer-in-charge and IO of the case have been missing and could not be contacted till the filing of this report”, said KSO-GHQ.

KSO-GHQ also accused the ECI of not conducting free and fair election and stated that the slogan of free and fair election will be just a mere lip service if action is not taken against the officials deputed in the polling booth when the incident happened.

KSO-GHQ also warned that if Lamtinthang Haokip is not released, KSO and like-minded student organisations will be compelled to launch a strong agitation.
