Condemning the alleged misuse of power by Binota Meinam beyond the power and functions of Manipur State Commission for Women, Khangabok Development and Students’ Union (KDASU) urged the chief minister and governor of Manipur to terminate Binota Meinam from the post of chairperson, MSCW at the earliest in the best interest of women as per the provisions laid down under the Manipur State Commission for Women, Act 2006, “for the welfare of the women victim and to have natural justice without bias in future”.

In a statement on Monday, KDASU alleged that in December, 2019 hundreds of youths demanded the termination of Binota Meinam from the post of chairperson for her statement on ‘Morality’ of women that hurt the sentiments of many youths.

“Moreover, we have also noted from media reports that Binota Meinam has misused the power of chairperson by forcing one woman to sign a “Deed of Divorce” with a threat on November 26, 2019,” it added.

The student body said that the alleged deliberate misuse of power by Binota Meinam came to light after the High court of Manipur suspended the case proceedings of Case number 42 of 2021 of MSCW.

KDASU also expressed apprehension that natural justice couldn’t be served to the victim if she continues to hold the post of chairperson, stating that student body has information that she has been working with vested interests with one women organisation “who acts themselves as a law court”; that they even made the conflicting parties sign “Agreement of Separation” which was against the rule of law.
