Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), a proscribed armed group in Manipur, has issued a stern ultimatum to a syndicate allegedly led by a person from hailing from Kwakta, accusing it of funnelling funds to the Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) and other Kuki-Zo militant groups through trade activities, according to a press release issued the party on Friday.
In the press release signed by M. Punisha Meitei, KCP Secretary of Information & Public Relations, the proscribed group alleged that one Md. Khalid-led syndicate transports betel leaves (mitha patta) and tobacco products from Silchar to Imphal via Churachandpur, paying “lakhs of rupees monthly” to the ZRA and allied groups. The party claims these funds are used to arm militants, who have allegedly targeted Meitei civilians and destabilized the region during ongoing ethnic tensions.
The ZRA, described by the KCP as a “proscribed group under the Suspension of Operations agreement,” has been implicated in violent attacks against the Meitei community, including arson and killings during recent clashes in Churachandpur. The KCP further labelled the groups as “narco-terrorist elements,” alleging their involvement in drug trafficking and anti-state activities.
“The syndicate’s actions directly fund violence aimed at destroying Kangleipak’s territorial integrity. This must stop immediately, or they will face severe consequences,” warned KCP. The ultimatum demands an immediate halt to trade activities linked to the syndicate and warns that violators will be punished irrespective of their “religious, gender, or caste identity.”
The KCP also urged citizens to boycott products transported via Churachandpur, asserting that 20% of proceeds from such goods fund militant activities. “Every purchase indirectly supports arms purchases targeting our people,” the press release stated.
