As the Christian community in the state celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ on Saturday, singing Christmas hymns echoed everywhere in Kangpokpi district.

Amidst pomp and joyous celebration, the family of Kakai Singsit spends the momentous day with prayer in tears for justice to prevail upon the three of their family members in jail allegedly for no false on their part while the trio’s uncle Kakai Singsit’s ‘Fast Unto Death’ stir entered its fifth day.

Many people and civil society organizations of the district also visited the family to exhibit solidarity and join Kakai Singsit for the day in his stir.

A political activist and an intending candidate for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election 2022 from 51-Saitu AC, Lamtinthang Haokip and his wife Regina also visited Kakai Singsit and his family while showing solidarity in their fight for justice.

Speaking to the media, Lamtinthang Haokip said that he would convey to the people of Manipur that we are not here sitting together because it’s Christmas time rather we are here for a very unfortunate incident that occurred on October 12 where four villagers, including a minor boy, was killed in an indiscriminate firing in B Gamnom village in Kangpokpi district.

He continued that in connection with the incident, the government failed to initiate any move to nab the real culprits but arrested three innocent drug users who habitually loitered around Motbung areas and detained them undemocratically and illegally at Sajiwa jail.

He also pointed out that in connection with the unlawful detention of the innocent trio, a social activist Kakai Singsit took an extreme step in the form of the ‘Fast Unto Death’ strike demanding justice for the innocent trio since December 20.

Lamtinthang Haokip appealed to the state government to release the trio if there is no political conspiracy as their innocence has been proven with evidence while questioning whether the law of the land is permitted to arrest and detain any innocent individual.

He also wondered as to why the local MLA, who is also in the present ruling party in the state remained silent till today when three of his innocent villagers from his constituency were unlawfully arrested and detained for more than two months while adding that the local MLA even on the humanitarian ground never visited the family nor exhibited any solidarity till date.

“Christmas is the time for merry-making and celebration for every family but it turns out to be a sorrowful and lachrymose day for Kakai and his family as three of their family members were enduring the wrath of AFSPA’s immunity,” he added.

“If the state government thinks they are looking after the law and order of the state quite well, then they must release the innocent trio at the earliest considering their innocence”, he appealed.

Lamtinthang Haokip also appealed to all people of Manipur to come forward and stand for justice while urging the various civil society organizations of the state to be a watchdog for such undemocratic and unlawful acts upon innocent civilians in the state.

Kakai Singsit, whose ‘Fast Unto Death’ strike reached its fifth day, said that I am a little bit emotional today as I recalled the past Christmas time where we used to illuminated lights, and decorate our house and enjoy the joyous occasion but as I have decided to fight the injustice I am committed to my decision and fight till death.

He alleged that the three innocent trio were made to forcefully confess to having been involved in the B. Gamnom firing which they are not completely even aware of it and this is what pains me as they have to endure misery inside Sajiwa jail while our family has to even sacrifice the auspicious Christmas celebration for the crime which we are not involved and connected.

He continued that being from a poor family, we have sold everything we can to fight for justice but our hope of getting justice seems to vanish in thin air as I visualized justice seems to be only for the high and mighty in the state of Manipur.

“I am financially and moral as well down but as I said I am not out in the fight, I will continue to fight for justice and I am happy to witness solidarity from many people and civil society organizations including ATSUM, TSA Sadar Hils, etc. which gives me new strength and hope in my fight”, he added.

Kakai continued to wonder as to why the local MLA even today failed to show solidarity to his family adding that he had committed to serving his people and assured to help them when in trouble but his commitment has become a mockery for our family now.

“I am physically weakening but my fight will go on”, Kakai said while adding that I have great hope that the people of Manipur and the various civil society organizations in the state will come forward for our cause in the larger interest of justice and humanity.

Thadou Students’ Association Sadar Hills led by its president Tolminthang Misao and secretary Lalboi Lhouvum also join Kakai Singsit on Saturday on the significant day of Christmas to show solidarity and stand for justice.

Many more others in the group and individual also visited Kakai and his family on Christmas day to show solidarity while demanding justice for the three innocent trio.
