The four MLAs are K Ranjit Singh of Sugnu Assembly Constituency, Yumnam Radheshyam of Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency, Usham Deben of Wabagai Assembly Constituency, M Rameshwar Singh of Kakching Assembly Constituency. The MLAs were also accompanied by MAHUD minister Y Khemchand who was allowed to return to Imphal by the public so as to brief about the prevailing situation in the Sugnu area.

The irate public questioned the stance of the 50 MLAs who had remained more or less silent on the demand for a ‘separate administration’ by 10 MLAs belonging to the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi community.

The irate public said the MLAs were detained so as to make them feel the pain and fear experienced by the villagers in and around the Sugnu area caused by alleged intermittent firing by armed Kuki militants. The public had informed the MLAs that during the recent exchange of fire between Manipur commando personnel, villagers of Sugnu on one side and Kuki militants on the other, the Assam Rifles jawans present in Sugnu area remained mute onlookers. They also demanded the removal of the Assam Rifles personnel from the area.
