In highest-ever daily spike, fresh Covid-19 infections cross 1,000 in Manipur

Out of the 4,900 test results received, 1,007 were tested positive. While the recovery rate dips to 81.97 percent and state positivity rate of the day stands at 20.55 per cent.

For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic hit the state in March 2020, Manipur on Saturday crossed 1,000 single day spike. The grim report came despite the fact that the state had been under partial lockdown since May 8 and the state government on Friday extended the “curfew” in seven districts as the second wave of the pandemic rages on despite restrictions.

Out of the 4,900 test results received, 1,007 were tested positive and 15 deaths reported, in the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Saturday, according to the Health Department.

The state positivity rate of the day stands at 20.55 percent.

Active cases in the state surged to 8,030. Out of these, 4,609 active cases are in home isolation.

As many as 358 fresh cases were detected amongst the general population from Imphal West, 237 from Imphal East, 98 from Thoubal, 91 from Churachandpur, 63 each from Bishnupur and Kakching, 37 from Tamenglong, 12 from Pherzawl, 10 from Kamjong, nine from Ukhrul, eight from Senapati, six from Tengnoupal, four each from Chandel and Jiribam, and three each from Kangpokpi and Noney. 

Six persons from Imphal West, five from Imphal East, two from Thoubal, and one each from Bishnupur and Ukhrul died in the last 24 hours at CCC Bishnupur (1), DH Ukhrul (1), Shija Hospital (1), RIMS (6), and JNIMS (6) hospital.

As many as 564 persons were discharged from — CAPF (22), Home Isolation (451), RIMS (6), JNIMS (8), BB (13), NSU (8), SHRI (10), RD Wing (3), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (14), Jivan Hospital (3), RAIMED (2). Thoubal (2), Bishnupur (5), Kakching (4), Senapati (4), Ukhrul (5) and Tengnoupal (4).

The total infection in the state now stands at 48,850 and 776 total deaths. The recovery rate has dipped to 81.97 percent.

Oxygen Status

As per the Health Department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1,355 D type Oxygen cylinders and 651 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur.
