Family of Ningthoujam Lanthoibi, who was murdered by her lover on Sunday night, took her body and performed her funeral on Wednesday. A huge procession was taken out carrying the body of 22-year-old woman from JN hospital mortuary to her residence in Bamol Leikai Heirikhagok Makhong in Imphal East before performing the funeral.
Lanthoibi alias Ichal, daughter of N Mani was shot dead by one Khangembam Ashok, aged around 28 years at Sabungkhok Khunou of Yaingangpokpi area on Sunday around 9 pm. According to police, the accused had eloped with Ichal on March 6 and they have been staying together at a brick kiln owned by the former’s family since then. The accused Ashok is already married and has two children.
He shot Lanthoibi in the head with a single barrel shotgun. The accused and the weapon used in the commission of the crime are in the police custody.
Hundreds, who gathered at Heirikhagok Makhong to attend her funeral, demanded speedy justice for Ningthoujam Lanthoibi. Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed to press for her justice. Father of Lanthoibi urges civil society organisations to help them get justice for his daughter.
