Tangkhul Longnao organised a grand condolence service for Late V Horam, Executive Members, Steering Committee, NSCN (I-M) on Thursday at Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Ground, Ukhrul.

Hundreds of people attended the condolence service to pay their last respect and homage to the departed soul.

Addressing the gathering, Susan Horam wife of Late V Horam stated, “He breathed his last on Wednesday morning at around 7.10 am at Zion Hospital, Dimapur due to multiple organs failure. He has given his best services. His earnest dream was to see the conclusion of the ongoing peace talk between NSCN (I-M) and the government of India. He was elated when the talk resumed after a gap of many months.”

Susan Horam thanked the Tangkhul Longnao for organising the condolence service. She also expressed immense gratitude to the headmen and chairmen, leaders of churches, rank and files of NSCN (I-M) and the public for their massive support and solidarity in these trying times.

Ringkahao Horam, brother of Late V Horam said that his younger brother’s “blood abnormality” started when he was tortured by the Indian security forces in the 1990s. His health gradually deteriorated from then onwards and was later diagnosed with blood cancer.

“My brother lived such a long life in spite of being a cancer patient because of God’s grace. We cannot ask more than that to God and thank God for adding more than 24 years in spite of suffering from such a dreaded disease. Our family members are grateful to everyone for paying such a grand homage to my brother and this act of love you have shown has greatly reduced the burden of our family in these most difficult times. May the good Lord bless each and every one of you,” said Ringkahao.

Member, Collective Leadership of NSCN (I-M), Rh Raising in his condolence message read out by the president of TKS stated – “Death is stalking every one of us. Death is not a choice, it is a must. It is a matter of time who goes first and who goes last. As his time has come, our beloved Varengam Horam has gone to be with the Lord in Paradise.

“All of us will die one day. But, there is a big gap between those who die for a good cause and those who die for a wrong cause and those who die without a cause. Late Mr V Horam and other martyrs have indeed paid the price of our freedom. We must pay homage to them”, he said.

“Late Varengam Horam was a man of many qualities. He was a good speaker, a good writer and a dynamic organizer. He was a people’s person and a patriotic revolutionary. The abortive political coup attempt of SS Khaplang in 1988 had created a horrible situation in Nagalim. V Horam was one of the team members who mobilized people in Kohima , Dimapur, and some other parts of the country. On top of that, he contributed his best services as a secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Kilonser, MIP and executive Member, Steering Committee, NSCN. His demise is an irreparable loss for the NSCN in particular and the people of Nagalim in general. He will always be in our fond memories” said Raising.

He added, “May the good Lord abundantly bless his bereaved family members! May the blood of this martyr be the good seed that bears fruits a thousand-fold in the land!” The body of V Horam was taken to Tusom Christian Village, his native village and will be laid to rest on Friday. Central Administrative Officer of Wung Tangkhul Region, Levi Zimik, Chairman of Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang, Dearson Chamroy, President of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long, SA.
