“Some drivers have already alleged that NSCN (I-M) collected Rs 2,000 for ‘godown tax’ and Rs 500 for ‘gate pass’ from truckers coming towards Manipur, even during the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. But the government has remained silent over the issue”.

Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council demanded clarification from the Government of India and Government of Manipur for taking no action against NSCN (I-M) for their alleged crime against truckers plying along the Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Jiribam national highways. The left parties accused the government of remaining silent when cadres of NSCN (I-M) collected illegal tax and sometimes set ablaze the trucks or pushed them under the steep gorges.

CPI Manipur State Council spokesperson Rk Amusana said that people of state have been demanding action against the NSCN (I-M) for terrorising the truckers playing along the national highways. But by remaining silent for so many years, it has raised the question whether the GoI and GoM are really thinking about the people or not. The left party also wondered whether there was any hidden agenda for not taking any action against the Naga outfit.

Rk Amusana also said that some drivers have already alleged that NSCN (I-M) collected Rs 2,000 for ‘godown tax’ and Rs 500 for ‘gate pass’ from truckers coming towards Manipur, even during the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic. But the government has remained silent over the issue, he said and demanded that the government take up steps to put an end to such practices.
