Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations, Manipur (FEGOCTA) on Sunday warned that college teachers in the state will boycott all the academic activities including online and offline classes from January 28, if the government fails to issue an order regarding implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 by January 27.

Speaking to media persons at the Manipur Press Club, FEGOCTA general secretary N Somarendro said that the teachers of government-run colleges have been demanding the implementation of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018. After months of democratic agitation, including class boycott, the state cabinet led by the chief minister approved the demand on August 6, 2020. The agitation was also called off consequently, he added.

Unfortunately, even 154 days after the cabinet approval, the government has not issued an order in this regard. So, if an order is not issued by January 27, the democratic agitation will be resumed, including boycott of online and offline classes and other academic activities, he added.

Somarendro further asserted that no assurances from the government will be trusted and the agitation will continue until an order is issued. Attachments area
