Five from Manipur among six drug traffickers arrested in Guwahati, 1.324 kg of heroin seized

In a major drug haul in Guwahati, 100 soap cases of Heroin weighing 1.324 kg were seized and six persons including five natives of Manipur arrested, police said on Monday.

According to the Assam Police, based on an intelligence input, GPD Special Squad led by Jt CP Partha Sarathi Mahanta, IPS apprehended a Bolero vehicle on August 28 and recovered a massive consignment of 100 soap cases of Heroin. The net weight of which came out to be 1.324 kgs.

The consignment was tracked by the Special Squad right from Moreh to Churachandpur and then till Sonapur where it was caught.

The packets were ingeniously hidden under the front dashboard and inside the rear tail lights. The vehicle insides had to be opened up by specialist mechanics to get to the drugs, police said.

The GPD Special squad arrested four occupants, including two mechanics, who were travelling with the vehicle to open it up before delivery. The four arrested were identified Khaiminlal Touthang (34) S/o Ngamsei Touthang, Vill Monnaphai, Churachandpur Manipur; Seiminthang Mate (37), S/o- Thongkhojan Mate, Vill Molnom, Churachandpur, Manipur; Paominthang Lhanghal (30), S/o Paolet Lhanghal, Vill M. Jamkim, Churachandpur, Manipur; Kailalson Khongsai (35), S/o Thangsai Khongsai, Vill Moraphai, Churachandpur, Manipur.

Based on their disclosure in interrogation, the Special Squad immediately launched Operations in Guwahati City and apprehended the two receivers of the consignment. The two were identified as Lulun Kuki (51 yrs), S/o Seiboi Kuki, Vill Tuibong, Churachandpur, Manipur and Kamkhojim (56 yrs), S/O T. Misao, Vill Phaipijang, Dimapur, Nagaland

In this case the traffickers used a different modus operandi of using an LMV instead of larger vehicles, the HMV for transporting the drugs, said police. Police Commissionerate, Guwahati said investigation is on to unearth further linkages.
