FEGOCTA suspends agitations, resumes duty

A day after the Manipur government issued orders for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018, the Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations (FEGOCTA) has suspended its agitations and teachers in government colleges, including those in the Dhanamanjuri University resume online classes and examination activities from Sunday.

An emergency executive committee meeting of FEGOCTA was held on Saturday at 8.00 pm through online mode after receiving and detailed discussions on the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 issued by the state government on Saturday. FEGOCTA also appealed for immediate pension orders for the college teachers who have already retired.  

FEGOCTA, in a release on Sunday, maintained it is the first and only teachers’ body in Manipur who demanded and went for 6th agitations for the adoption of both 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018. It is a great step towards higher education particularly collegiate education in Manipur. The full implementation of UGC Regulations 2018 should start with the direct recruitment of assistant professors through MPSC, not through contract appointment, it asserted.

FEGOCTA also thanked Manipur chief minister N Biren and other cabinet ministers, including deputy chief minister Y Joykumar for the historic cabinet decisions on 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018.

FEGOCTA also expressed gratitude to the education minister, the commissioner and other officials of the Higher Education Department; the chief secretary and officials of the Finance Department for their swift actions. FEGOCTA also acknowledged the former education minister Th Radheshyam, the former chief secretary, former commissioner, the directors and other officials of Higher Education Department. It also appreciated all the individuals and stakeholders who supported the adoption of the national policy of UGC in Manipur.
