A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 Magnitude hit 43km West of Tezpur, Assam at 7:51 IST (Lat: 26.69 & Long: 92.36), according to the National Center for Seismology.
Strong tremors were felt in parts of the Northeast as well as North Bengal. Reports suggested that the quake has caused extensive damage to property and land across the region.
The tremors were repeatedly felt in several parts of the northeast including neighbouring Bhutan, forcing people to run out of their homes.
