A COVID positive patient ran away from a COVID care centre on Tuesday morning. The patient is a drug user who was found positive while conducting a mass testing on Monday.
Medical Officer In-charge, CCC Imphal West, RD Wing, Lamphelpat, Dr Maibam Rocky has written a “missing report” to the director of Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur in this regard.
The 35 years old (male) drug user was tested positive on Monday. He was admitted to the CCC Imphal West at around 6:48 pm. He was asymptomatic at the time of admission, according to the report.
At around 7:45 am on Tuesday, he was found missing from his room with all his belongings. His phone was also found to be switched off. Some of the patients saw him wandering around the corridor at mid-night which caused disturbance to other in-patients, according to the report.
Dr Maibam Rocky urged the Social Welfare director to take necessary action and arrange a separate centre for the management of such patients.
The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, in association with FINGODAP- Manipur Chapter and Drug Users’ Federation for Human Rights & Justice conducted a mass testing of COVID-19 for street based drug users on Monday at the premises of the Directorate of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur, Near 2nd MR Gate, Imphal for a target of 50 number of drug users. However, 29 men and four women turn up for the camp.
As per the RT-PCR report received in the afternoon, 32 of the drug users tested negative whereas only one drug user tested positive. Accordingly, the 28 male drug users who tested negative were taken to Divine Light Center, Canchipur while four female drug users were taken to Sneha Bhavan, Airport Road for treatment.
The lone drug user who tested positive was transferred to a special unit of COVID Care Centre for treatment of COVID-19. Once he becomes COVID negative, he will be transferred to a special de addiction and treatment Centre at Canchipur, stated a release by Social Welfare director Ng Uttam on Monday.
