Keeping in mind the covid situation in India, the Election Commission of India is putting in place various measures for safety of the voters. As part of the measures, postal ballot facility will be made available to Covid 19 positive patients for the first time.
District Election Officer of Ukhrul and Kamjong Districts, Krishna Kumar in a press meet said, “If any Covid-19 positive patients wanted to cast their vote, they can cast their vote through postal ballot.” The forms can be availed through BLOs, he added.
Stating that the safety of the voters is of utmost importance, the DEO of Ukhrul and Kamjong appealed to the denizens of the two districts to get vaccinated against Covid-19 before election so that safety can be ensured for everyone. “We still have enough time to get vaccinated so please come forward from tomorrow onwards,” he said.
Kirshna Kumar further said, “For the safety of polling personnel as per the direction of ECI and CEO, we have requested all the government employees, those who will be part of the election to get vaccinated. The response is very encouraging.” “We also have started the booster dose to all the polling personnel and officials, because safety of voters and polling personnel is very important,” he added.
He also informed that “on the day of the poll, polling personnel will be provided face masks, face shields, hand gloves and PPE kits. At every polling station, one officer would be there to measure the temperature. If someone is beyond the normal temperature, they will not be allowed to immediately cast their vote. After completion of voting procedure for the normal voters, they would be allowed to cast their vote separately. It is for the safety of voters and polling personnel.”
Maintaining that election in any democratic country is the biggest festival of democracy, he appealed to all the voters of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts to ensure safety during the elections. “Everyone must get vaccinated and let us engage in ethical voting only. The Constitution of India has given the rights, and we should utilise our rights as per our choice and as well our wish only,” he said.
