Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) on Sunday lashed out at leaders and VIPs for choosing private hospitals over government run hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, stating that such actions exposed the fact that the government hospitals are in shambles.
Speaking to media persons at MSF office, Kwakeithel on Sunday, MSF general secretary Hijam Roshan said that it was unfortunate that higher echelons of the state government are opting for private hospitals for treating COVID-19. The government should look into the matter and build up the infrastructure of the government hospitals, he asserted.
Roshan also said that as the government has not fixed the rate of testing and other items like medicine, treatment coat, Oxygen, etc, the people are facing hardships. The government should announce the rate fixed by it in this matter, he added.
The MSF general secretary also demanded that RT-PCR testing facilities should be revamped in government hospitals.
On the other hand, Roshan contended that some private hospitals are charging as they wish while treating COVID patients, and urged them to have some empathy at such a crucial period of the pandemic.
Roshan further mentioned that on May 4, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh instructed his officials to take actions against any private hospitals for overcharging or extra charging while treating COVID patients. Accordingly on May 7, cases have been registered against six private hospitals. The Manipur Government should look into such matters in the state, he added. Attachments area
