As the Nagaland goes to poll for the municipals and the town councils on June 26, Girish Raya Chodankar, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur, and Nagaland during his visit to the state capital, Kohima, Sunday maintained that the Congress would be participating in these elections across the state. As an opposition party, it will adhere to principles and constitutional obligations, providing “options and opportunities” to the people of Nagaland, he said.
A veteran politician having the distinction serving as president, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), since the year 2018 to 2022, and appointed as a permanent invitee of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Girish addressing media persons at Vivor Hotel, Kohima, said that the contestants for the 36 town councils and three municipal seats could be an “eye opener” for Nagas as for the very first time since the 33 per cent women reservation was introduced in the state leading to mass objections and also experiencing losing of innocent lives.
He informed that after long deliberations, the meet solicited for more or maximum participations from the youth and the women folks alike where it is the opinion of electing or selecting a candidate from the grassroots to lead the Nagas into a progressive society.
As the AICC awaits the declaration of results to the 18th Lok Sabha Election for which the counting for Nagaland state takes place on June 4, Girish in a way was of the view that “normally” the party does not interfere local body elections but having been already allocated the party’s “symbol” so as to let the candidate (s) truly represent the grassroots, he referred and mentioned about doing clean politics while also determining in serving the Nagas through protecting their interest and also the environment and other issues confronting the Nagas.
INDIA Bloc to form next government in the country, says Chodankar
Exuding confidence that “India Bloc” is to form the next government in the country with support from its alliance partners, Girish also expressed his hope that many of the parties who were not with the “India Bloc” during the election would also join them by citing that the party wanted to “truly” make it “All India Government” by involving the other political parties other than the BJP party.
Later, he expressed his hopefulness that the Congress will win the lone Lok Sabha seat while rubbishing on the “exit poll” commenting that the NDA government at the Centre will foray into another terms.
Meanwhile, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, S Supongmeren Jamir, informed that till date, 16 aspiring candidates have come forward for Congress ticket for ULB elections out of which eight are women while also expecting more fielding their candidature.
