Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Thursday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party led government in the state of not being able to deliver on its pre-poll promise of developing National Highway 37. Two thirds of NH 37, which is second lifeline of Manipur, is still in a deplorable state, said MPCC general secretary (administration) Hareshwar Goswami.
Addressing the media persons though zoom, Hareshwar said the BJP had promised to develop two national highways like airstrips so that aircraft could land. However, major portion of the highway is ridden with large potholes and remains in pathetic state, except on some stretch and almost-complete Makru bridge. Though works on Barak bridge is going on in full swing, it is unlikely to be completed in the tenure of present regime as promised by the BJP, he said. It may take another two years to complete, he added.
Narrating his experience during the recent visit to Tousem in Tamenglong district to distribute relief material to Covid-19, Hareshwar took a potshot at chief minister N Biren Singh’s most-touted “Go to Hill Mission”. Tousem in Tamemenglong district bore the brunt of state government’s apathy and negligence, he claimed.
Joining the virtual press meet, MPCC member and intending candidate Dr. Akhu said that the primary health centre in Tousem has just one oxygen concentration and there is no supply of oxygen cylinder to the facilities. The PHC has neither testing nor vaccination facilities for Covid-19 for the villagers, he added.
He further said the Manipur government has not organised any vaccination programme in Tousem yet.
When asked by a media person, Akhu said so far two persons were infected with Covid-19 and both are asymptomatic and on home isolation.
