The results for the Class XII exams of 2024 conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) were declared on Monday. Despite the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur, the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examination, held on February 21st, 2024, saw a record pass percentage of 97.63%.
Announcing the results at the COHSEM office, Director L Nandakumar acknowledged the challenging circumstances under which the exams were conducted due to the heightened state of conflict, yet emphasized the impressive pass rate.
“For the first time in Manipur’s history, the pass percentage has reached an impressive 97.63%,” stated L. Nandakumar. He further elaborated that in the field of Science, the pass percentage reached 98.91%, in Arts it stood at 94.35%, and in Commerce, it achieved 93.51%.
Comparatively, last year’s pass percentage was 88.68%, while in 2022, it was 90.09%.
Government higher secondary schools achieved an admirable pass percentage of 95.49%, while private higher secondary schools surpassed this with a commendable pass rate of 98.18%. Across districts, Thoubal District emerged as the frontrunner with an impressive pass percentage of 99.58%, closely followed by Bishnupur District at 99.19%. Imphal-East District and Imphal-West District reported strong performances as well, with pass percentages of 99.02% and 98.92% respectively. Other districts also demonstrated noteworthy results: Chandel District at 95.60%, Churachandpur District at 93.98%, Jiribam District at 95.26%, Kakching District at 98.25%, Kamjong District at 98.68%, Kangpokpi District at 97.44%, Noney District at 97.51%, Senapati District at 92.26%, Tamenglong District at 93.44%, Tengnoupal District at 97.21%, and Ukhrul District reporting the lowest pass percentage at 85.95%.
A total of 31,128 students participated in the exam, with 30,391 successfully passing. Among the results announced, 20,498 students achieved first division, 8,498 students secured second division, and 1,331 students attained third division. Additionally, 17 results were withheld due to incomplete report submissions, and three students’ results were canceled. The exam declaration event was graced by the presence of COHSEM Chairman T. Ojit, COHSEM member Kh. Ashikumar, COHSEM Secretary O. Joy, and Controller of Examinations at COHSEM.
