Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday asserted that the government will not tolerate and compromise with the kind of terrorist activities that occurred on Saturday, in the state.
Biren was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of those who were killed in the ambush at Sehkan village, Singhat Sub-Division, Churachandpur district. He led others in paying last respect to the martyrs, according to official sources.
The chief minister led top police and military officers in laying wreaths to the mortal remains of the martyrs of 46 Assam Rifles at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal.
CM Biren Singh strongly condemned the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy. He shared his deepest condolence and shared grief with the bereaved families.
The chief minister maintained that he has instructed the Home department and paramilitary forces to arrest and punish the perpetrators according to rule of law.
CM Biren also maintained that fencing of porous borders between Myanmar and Manipur remains the priority of both the union and state governments. The fencing work of around 40 km, out of more than 300 km, is underway but there are disputes in some parts of the borders, he said. He also assured that the government would strengthen the security forces in the border areas of the state.
In one of the deadliest attacks carried out on security forces in the state in recent times, seven were killed on Saturday, including Commanding Officer (CO) of 46 Assam Rifles (Khuga Battalion) Colonel Viplav Tripathi, his wife and son, and four Quick Reaction Team (QRT) personnel.
