Two traffickers on Kenbo Bike 125 managed to escape taking the advantage of porous international border and darkness

An operational team of 5 Assam Rifles has seized suspected brown sugar weighing 1.536 kg worth Rs 3.07 crore in international market in General Area Hallanphai near border pillar 76. The seizure was made on March 24, 2023. However, two traffickers on Kenbo Bike 125 managed to escape taking advantage of the porous India-Myanmar border and darkness.
According to an official source, a Surveillance Cum Mobile Vehicle Check Post was established by an operational team of 5 Assam Rifles in General Area Hallanphai near border pillar 76 at 7 pm on March 24, 2023. At around 7.30 pm, the team noticed movement of a light vehicle coming from Myanmar side towards India side.
The Surveillance team alerted the operational team. As the Kenbo bike moved into Indian Territory, the operational team gave a signal to halt. On noticing the presence of security forces, Kenbo riders immediately turned back and ran away. Operational team pursued them rigorously till the border. Due to the rigorous chase by the operational team, the pillion rider dropped black polythene and they managed to escape taking advantage of porous border, proximity to IB and darkness, it added.
The source further said on detailed search of polythene, it was found containing 37 soap cases suspected brown sugar.
The recovered items were handed over to Moreh Police Station for necessary legal action, added the source.
