An Improvised Explosive Devised (IED) exploded inside the premise of Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul, at around 4:35pm on Tuesday. However, there was no report of any casualty.
According to Ukhrul Police, the bomb was hurled from outside the wall of the complex on the eastern flank. It is reported that the bomb was hurled from the NH 202A side that passes through the heart of Ukhrul Town and exploded at the north-eastern flank of the complex. The distance from the explosion spot -Mini Secretariat Complex and NH202A is about 60 feet.
Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and other departments are located within the Mini Secretariat Complex, Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
According to Ukhrul Police, the bomb was an improvised IED with low intensity.
Speaking to this Correspondent, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul, Krishna Kumar said that “at around 4:35pm, a bomb was hurled from outside and exploded inside the Mini Secretariat Complex. There was no human casualty by the grace of God. Inquiry is being made by the security agencies to find out the culprits and also to maintain the law and order security agencies have been deployed. I would like to appeal the public to cooperate with the security agencies if they got any kind of information to find out the culprits. To maintain peace and harmony and for the safety of the people of Ukhrul District, we have to join together to fight such kinds of ill practices. I would also like to appeal to the public of Ukhrul not to get panicked.”
Meanwhile, PHED staff on Tuesday stages a sit-in-protest against the bomb plant at the office of PHED Ukhrul Division, to show their condemnation against it.
The staff of PHED Ukhrul Division vehemently condemned the inhuman act whereby it has created an uncomfortable panicky situation to the office goers. Further urged the responsible individual or group for settling any misunderstanding through peaceful dialogue without inciting violence.
According to information made available, one of the staff C. Runsung first located the suspicious items at the main entrance of the office gate.
On seeing the items kept in a suspicious manner, the staff open the item wrapped in a black polythene fitted with battery and digital signal light box that was properly wrapped with cello tape on Monday at around 5:30 pm evening, the staff immediately reported to his superior.
Following the reports, the Ukhrul police team led by SP, Ukhrul Ningsem Vashum and personnel of 35 Assam Rifles rushed to the spot.
The security forces cordoned off the area and prevented the movement in and around the areas as a precautionary measure for the safety of the public.
The remote controlled IED bomb was able to remove and defuse with the help of bomb experts team from Imphal in the early morning today, and later it was detonated at around 8:30 am morning in an isolated area of Ukhrul.
A Suo- moto case under FIR No. 08(14)2023/UKL-PS under Section 400/34 IPC and Section 4 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908, is registered for investigation.
