BJP National spokesperson and BJP Manipur in-charge Dr Sambit Patra has lauded Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh for taking up developmental works in the hill districts despite the Congress trying to destabilise the government. Biren has passed the “Agni Pariksha”, he added.

Sambit Patra was attending the Mandal level meeting of BJP Phungyar, Ukhrul and Chingai Mandals held at Ukhrul Town Hall on Thursday. BJP Manipur organisation general secretary Abhay Giri, chief minister Biren, Booth presidents of the three Assembly constituencies and hundreds of BJP supporters also attended the meeting.

Sambit Patra also said that during Union home minister Amit Shah’s recent visit in the state, a core committee meeting was held. In that meeting the home minister advised them to go to the hills and be friends with the people of the hills, because only then there will be a stable and a government in the state. “Without hills we are nothing,” Dr Sambit Patra asserted.

The BJP Manipur in-charge also urged the party leaders to respect the grassroot workers. There would not be any government without their support, he added.

Listing the development projects that the state BJP led government has taken up in the district so far, Sambit Patra said that the government has allotted Rs 7570 lakhs for the district.

Attending the function as chief guest, Biren said that the people of Ukhrul have been reeling under hard times because of the “political situation”. He added that everyone is praying for a “peaceful settlement”.

Biren also announced that an amusement-cum-children park would be constructed at the suitable place in the district at a cost of Rs 5 crore so that people can relax and have quality time with friends and families after a hard day’s work. Similar parks would be constructed at six hill districts apart from the one in Imphal East for which foundation stone was laid down in December 2020, he added.

Urging the BJP workers of the district to work unitedly, Biren bats for forgive and forget. Sticking to a point won’t be helpful in going along with others, he said. This time the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council has to be formed by BJP, the chief minister asserted.

Stating that running a coalition government, there has to be some adjustments, the chief minister assured his commitment to the party as the next general election is just a year away.

Dr Sambit Patra also felicitated the three Mandal presidents and Ukhrul district BJP president during the meeting to show gratitude for their allegiance in the party. BJP Ukhrul Unit president Thothing Kashung urged the visiting party leaders to bring more development in the district.

Separate meeting was held for ADC intending candidates, Ex-MLAs and MLAs.

Later Biren along with Sambit Patra, ministers, MLAs, and party leaders walked about 200 metres and met the town people. During the roadshow, Biren assured to provide loans to the women vendors of Ukhrul town.
