Students studying Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) in different colleges affiliated to Manipur University have alleged that they have been given step-motherly treatment as results of semesters exams are not announced and the mark sheets are not issued on time. This has caused lots of difficulties, they said.

North East Progressive Youth (NEPY) general secretary Chittaranjan Meitram told TFM that the course was introduced in 2015 in three colleges in Manipur — College of Social Work, Meitram Awang Leikai; Don Bosco College, Maram, and Lungningla Elizabeth College of Social Work, Senapati. Around 200 students enrolled each year in the three years course, he added.

He also said that as the mark sheets of previous semesters are not issued on time, the pass-out students are facing difficulties in pursuing further studies or applying for jobs. The students had to approach the authorities to get the marksheets, he added.

Stating that for students presently studying in 5th semester, the marksheets of previous semesters have not been issued, he said that student organisations of hill districts had already approached the authorities, but to no effect till date.

As the students belonging to Schedule Tribe (ST) category had to rely on the scholarships to continue their study, it has created lots of hardships, he said.

Chittaranjan Meitram urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and announce results and issue marksheets on time.
