A day after a complaint was lodged against some CDO personnel at Heingang police station for alleged assault on a doctor couple, the Imphal East Superintendent of Police on Friday put Collin Kshethrimayum of CDO unit Imphal East under suspension with immediate effect and until further orders.
An order issued by Imphal East SP N Herojit Meitei said a disciplinary proceeding is being contemplated against Collin Kshethrimayum for his grave misconduct and dereliction to duty on September 02, 2021 at about 8:00 pm at Luwangshangbam.
“During the period of his suspension, the headquarters of C No. 0183044 Collin Kshethrimayum shall be Reserve Line Porompat and he shall not leave his headquarter without obtaining prior permission of the undersigned. He will get subsistence allowances as admissible under rules during the period of his suspension,” added the order.
Meanwhile, Indian Medical Association Manipur State Brach submitted a representation to chief minister N Biren Singh drawing his attention to the incident and demanding dismissal of the security personnel involved in the assault within three days.
Narrating the incident, the representation said that “on the night of September 2, 2021 at around 8.15 pm one Dr K Soreingam, Assistant Professor, JNIMS was assaulted by security personals deployed near your residence at Luwangshangbam while he was retuming from CMC Hospital, Kiorengei after picking up his wife who is a Gynecologist of the hospital.” It is learned that even after identifying himself as a doctor and showing his ID card the security personnel abused him in front of his wife and even hit him with the issued rifle, added the representation.
It further said Indian Medical Association condemned in strongest terms such an act of violence by personnel in uniform who are the protector of the state. The security persons involved in this heinous act are not fit to serve the people and should be terminated within three days failing which the association will launch a series of state wide protests.
