While appreciating the Manipur Government handling the alarmingly high rate of infection and death, the All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) urged the state government to come out with a “comprehensive and proactive” policy program to flatten the surge of COVID-19 and evolve “holistic mechanism” to treat the entire COVID positive patient promptly.
ANSAM, in a release on Friday, urged the government to put extra effort in rural areas with no or little access to proper medical facilities instead of its usual “lethargic and lackadaisical actions”.
All the District Hospital, CHC, PHC and SPHC should be ensured adequate medical doctors, nurses, staff and basic necessary equipment and facilities. Doctors and medical staff who have been failing to report to respective postings, especially in hills station should be given a befitting punishment, the student body asserted.
“Proper installation of manpower and basic health equipment in the hill districts will drastically subside the overcrowding and increasing death toll of patients in the state specially in two premier institutes — RIMS and JNIMS, Imphal,” it added.
Stating that most of COVID Care Centre (CCC) are reportedly under management, hygienic standards of toilets are at stake, which is a big challenge for all the inmates with different health backgrounds in the same centre, ANSAM urged the government for immediate redresser of such basic public grievances.
“The government may also adopt a policy program for engagement/recruitment of health and sanitary workers at different levels, be it temporary to meet the increasing shortage of manpower in the state,” it suggested.
The student body said that the already grim situation is worsening which sought for a great deal of responsibility and accountability from all stakeholders. Despite all challenges, the government must ensure fair and just facility for the entire citizen. In this light, we would like to put forward straight to all the ministers and various authorities and august personalities in the state to stretch out your hands beyond your locality and constituency, it urged.
The Naga student body also drew the attention of the concerned authority to check the prevailing price hike of all the commodities by taking undue advantages over the ongoing lockdown. Hoarding, blackmarketing and unreasonable price hike of essential commodities should be dealt with as serious offence and befitting punishment be given to any defaulters instantly. We also appeal to all the business community to put humanity first during this trying time, it added.
In this horrendous situation, ANSAM also expressed its utmost solidarity to all the people who are infected and affected by COVID-19 pandemic and wished speedy recovery to all the COVID-19 patients.
Stating that the pandemic has taken the world by storm and paralyzing the whole normal affair, ANSAM saluted all the “Frontline warriors”, saying “your sacrifice has save us this far, yet the war hasn’t ended; our prayer and moral support will be always with you to keep fighting boldly all humanity”.
ANSAM also expressed concern and solidarity to all sisters and brothers who are staying outside Manipur. It appealed to the state and central government to look into the welfare of the poor and needy students as well migrant workers and ensure their basic life security during this difficult time.
The student body also made a general appeal to all the citizens to cooperate and adhere to the authority and experts with all the evolving situations and SOPs to save ourselves from this dreadful pandemic.
