Congress on Thursday slammed the BJP led Manipur government regarding the abduction and brutal murder of former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) Athuan Abonmai.
AICC observer (Manipur), MP Pradyut Bordoloi, briefing media persons at Congress Bhawan, asserted that ‘public leader’ Athuan Abonmai was brutally killed because of the laxity and failure of the Manipur government.
Condemning the brutal murder, he demanded that the culprits or if any organisation was involved should be brought to justice. He further asserted that the role of the Union government in the case has been “totally nil”.
“They (Union government) should have stepped in when the state government has failed,” he added.
The AICC observer said that the state has been witnessing deterioration of the law and order situation. The people are now living with a sense of fear and anxiety. The then Congress government under the leadership of O Ibobi made sustained efforts towards conflict resolution, he said adding that the peace that the state enjoyed was a fruit of that effort.
MP Pradyut Bordoloi also alleged that drug menace has been growing at an alarming rate under BJP ruled states. He cited the recent seizure of one of the largest consignment of drugs of around 3,000 kg of heroin worth Rs 21,000 crore from Mundra port (Adani Group) in Gujarat’s Kutch district.
The MP from Assam also criticized the BJP led Manipur government maintaining that it was a “corrupt and ineffective” government. While the unemployment rate has risen manifold in the state, the government is suppressing and hiding the actual facts and data, he added.
Stating that corruption is rampant in every sphere of the government, he said that the level of corruption has grown at an alarming manner.
Exuding confidence that the people of the state will repost their faith in Congress in the upcoming state general election, MP Pradyut Bordoloi said that all measures have been taken up to fight the BJP to bring in new aspirations and hope of peace and development in the state.
“Congress will never let down the people of Manipur. Congress will protect and give security to all the people,” he added.
