Amidst the raging second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, news about infection of the staff at BABINA Diagnostics went viral on social media platforms. It created a panic as BABINA is amongst the private testing centres which is conducting a large number of COVID testing.

BABINA Diagnostics in a statement on Wednesday clarified that the institute is safe and that it was more determined than ever to fight the current pandemic.

“We are appalled by the grossly exaggerated numbers (of infection) in the viral messages and condemn in the strongest terms the intent of the message to spread a sense of fear among the patients who need to visit our centre for their various medical needs,” it stated.

We have been observing viral messages flowing in social media about many staff of BABINA Diagnostics testing positive of COVID-19, it said. BABINA Diagnostics has been conducting COVID-19 tests over the past one year and, in the second wave COVID surge in the past one month or so, some of our staff got infected, it added.

However, the infections were spread over the one-month long duration and some have even passed their recovery period, it said.

“We wish to clarify that the infections did not happen at one time, and we have been practicing COVID appropriate behaviour in our workplace ever since the pandemic started. As frontline workers in this ongoing pandemic, we are exposed to risks but because of the strict SOPs that we follow in our organisation, we have been able to curb the infection among our staff.”

A senior management informed TFM that the centre has a regular screening program as well as testing of suspects. Once positive they are isolated and necessary formalities are done. In fact, it is the problem with most of the healthcare units. We are always vulnerable by nature of our profession, he said. However, Babina is trying its best to keep the centre safe to the patients and visitors following standard protocol, he added.
