Amidst the persistent Kuki-Meitei violence in Manipur, the Assam Rifles (AR) says that it has been instrumental in bringing down the intensity of violence in the state. In continuation to the efforts to bring normalcy in the state, the Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles has organised various Security Meetings with the CSOs of both Kuki and Meitei Communities since May 8.
According sources, Major General V K Nambiar, YSM, SM, Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) along with Brig Bikram Saini SM, VSM, Deputy Inspector General Jwalamukhi Sector Assam Rifles have chaired these meetings wherein the issues of both the communities were addressed. The agendas discussed during the meeting with Kuki CSOs at KPI and with Meitei CSOs at Leimakhong are the blockades on NH-02 at Kangpokpi to cease the supplies of essential items like ration and medicine to Imphal Valley, contribution of prominent local leaders in persuading the locals to maintain peace, the contribution of Assam Rifles towards both communities in rescue and evacuation from violence struck areas and the actions taken by Assam Rifles against the underground cadres active in the region.
The CSOs of both communities appreciated the efforts of organising the meeting and conveyed their problems. The problems were duly addressed and an assurance was given to them that Assam Rifles will continue to extend its unbiased support to bring normally in the state.
