Prof. A. Santa Singh, Director, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal said that the annual budget allocation of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal has got 27.6 per cent increase at Rs. 560 crore for 2022-23.
Speaking at inauguration of the newly constructed Electrical Section building on 2 February, 2022, Prof A Santa Singh said the budget allocation is at par with the other top ranking medical institutes in India. “The sudden increase of budget may be due to high performance of the institute. We have done very good work during the current financial year amidst COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Stating that the ministry is also closely monitoring the progress of works being taken up in the institute, the director said, “We were able to utilise 76 per cent fund during the 2nd quarters of the financial year, which is one of the highest amongst the central medical institutes. The institute could achieve a lot of things. It’s because of team work. It is really a proud moment that we as a team could achieve so many things this year.”
Prof A Santa Singh also said that the increase of budget to Rs 560 crore has set a benchmark of high standard which will be benefitted in the years to come. In addition, the ministry also approved the establishment of a Critical Care Block in the institute. RIMS was one of the twelve central medical institutes selected to be a mentor institute, he added.
The Director further stated that Civil Section of Central Workshop will also be shifted to newly constructed building very soon. The present premises may be converted as Utilities Block. The necessary facilities will be provided to both Electrical and Civil Section of Central Workshop.
Prof. N. Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS Hospital in his presidential address thanked the Director for taking up many initiatives related to patient care services. “Many doctors, nurses and other paramedical staff have been working in this difficult time and we were also getting necessary support due to strong support from the media fraternity. The roles of the media are very important especially during this COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
Jiten Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Manipur State Co-operative Union Technical Engineering Cell, Imphal and L. Kumar Singh, Consultant (Electrical), Central Workshop were other presidium members. The Consultant (Civil), engineering staff of Central Workshop and officials attended the programme.
