The joint students’ bodies of All Tribal students’ union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM), and Kuki students’ Organisation General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ) urged the Manipur government to release pending scholarships for the ST students of Manipur at the earliest.
While students belonging to SC and OBC have already received their scholarships from the government with ‘pomp and show’, the students belonging to ST categories are still looking forward to receiving their scholarships, stated a joint statement by the student bodies.
Mention may be made that recently ACTSUI (All College Tribal Students’ Union Imphal) had already raised this issue to the director of the Tribal Affairs and Hill, Government of Manipur. The government is yet to respond to their demands.
“This lackadaisical attitude towards ST students has made the students feel discriminated against by the government. Therefore, the three apex student bodies would like to appeal to the state government of Manipur to release the pending scholarships at the earliest,” it added.
