MMWO also demanded the state government to set up a committee, having an IAS officer as a member, to enquire whether the Multi-Sectoral Development Programme under the 15-point programme has been implemented in the minority concentrated areas or not.

Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) on Tuesday accused the BJP -ed Manipur government of managing the Directorate of Minority Affairs just for namesake, and asserted that the organisation won’t remain silent on the matter.
The minority communities of the state had high hopes that as a separate directorate had been set up, they would be able to get all the benefits under several schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. But now, all the hope and trust has been quashed by the state government, MMWO said in a release.
The department for the Welfare of Minorities and Other Backward Classes (MOBC), Government of Manipur was bifurcated in 2018 into two directorates — The Directorate of Minority Affairs and The Directorate for the Welfare of Other Backward Classes and Scheduled Castes.
Stating that the number of schemes in different trades under the economic development programme by the directorate have been reduced to just three or four, MMWO said that according to “reliable sources” there are plans to select only few beneficiaries as the union government has not sanctioned funds. This is an unfortunate development, it added.
MMWO also said that such a scheme was launched by chief minister N Biren Singh recently and some tools and equipment were distributed to some beneficiaries close to the power. But the beneficiary list of the scheme has not been released yet, it added.
Such instances have proved that the state government is trying to “suppress” the minority communities, the MMWO accused and urged the state government to avoid such instances which might hurt the sentiments of the minority communities in future.
MMWO also urged the state government to announce the schemes under the economic development programme to help the socially and economically backward communities in view of the devastations caused by COVID-19 pandemic.
The organisation further urged the state government to judiciously utilise the fundings provided by the union government for the welfare of socially and economically backward communities as envisaged in the prime minister’s 15-point programme.
MMWO also demanded the state government to set up a committee, having an IAS officer as a member, to enquire whether the Multi Sectoral Development Programme under the 15-point programme has been implemented in the minority concentrated areas or not.
