Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi exhorted the Meira Paibis (women volunteers on social and political movements of the state) to work cautiously, making sure that they don’t become puppets and tools of politicians.
Ima Memchoubi made the remark on Wednesday on the occasion of the 35th foundation day of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur. Floral tributes were paid to the departed former leaders of the Meira Paibi group and honoured them at a solemn function held at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba.
Ima Memchoubi also highlighted the need for Meira Paibis to work courageously to make Manipur a peaceful one. People should be alert about any designs by the Government of India to divide the indigenous communities of the state, she added.
Politicians should not try to mislead the Meira Paibis for their political gains, she said and asserted that Meira Paibis should also make sure that they don’t become Laiphadibi (puppet/doll).
Urging the people to support Meira Paibi movement, she also said that the Meira Paibis should make sure that the courage one got when she holds a Meira (torch), to fight any agression against Manipur, is lost. She also highlighted the role women of the state took in major important events in history.
Ima Memchoubi also highlighted the atrocities that central and state forces inflicted upon the populace including fake encounters and sexual assaults. When the state wails, Meira Paibis stepped up and fought against it. Due to which it has been curtailed to some extent, she said.
As a part of the observation, a team led by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur president Longjam Memchoubi donated rice, potatoes, edible oil, and other edible items to BB Paul Mental Development Home, Mongshangei and Leiba Yaibirel Children Home, Keibi.
