Ukhrul nurses demand equal pay, join cease work strike

They staged a sit-in protest on the premise of District Hospital Ukhrul demanding equal treatment for all the nurses working under Manipur State Government

Nurses fraternity of Ukhrul on Tuesday joint the cease work strike called by Trained Nurses’ Association of India (TNAI), Manipur Branch. They staged a sit-in protest on the premise of District Hospital Ukhrul. The placards reads “We demand equal treatment JNIMS Staff and State Government Employee”, “We demand nursing Grade Pay and DA Payment”, “Equal treatment for all the nurses working under Manipur State Government”, “Equal pay is our right” etc.

In a Press statement signed by Th Binodini Devi, Secretary of TNAI, Manipur Branch stated that “since the State Government has not been taking up appropriate action about the payment of Grade Pay Nursing Allowance as well as DA payment and as nurses’ demands have been incorporated in the Charter of Demands, the Trained Nurses’ Association of India, Manipur State Branch, under the aegis of Manipur Government Services Federation and Manipur Secretariat Services Association, all the nurses fraternity will join in the Cease Work Strike, which is to be launched with immediate effect from August 17, 2021 until and unless our demands are met/settled.

“In view of the present scenario, the State government is urged to have the earliest settlement of the issue before it turns to an unwanted situation.”

The cease work strike called by nurses’ fraternity in Ukhrul in times of pandemic will greatly affect the Ukhrul populace. As part of their agitation, the nurses have requested the hospital authority not to admit new patients in the hospital. Percentage of eligible population vaccinated with at least first dose stands at 21.6 % and second dose stands at 7.0 % in the context of Ukhrul District.
