The Federation of Government College Teachers’ Associations (FEGOCTA) on Saturday announced its plan for agitations which will begin from November 29. FEGOCTA had earlier set November 27 as the deadline for the Manipur government to issue the 7th UGC pay slips.

FEGOCTA, in a release, stated the college teachers will protest by wearing Black Badges from November 29 to December 4; sit-in protests from December 6 to December 9 from 1.00 pm onwards in the respective colleges, followed by “mass casual leaves” from December 10 to December 10.

If the Manipur government fails to issue the UGC pay slips by December 11, FEGOCTA said that the college teachers will boycott all classes both online and physical from December 13 onwards, until the UGC pay slips are issued.

The decision to launch the series of agitations were taken during an executive committee meeting of FEGOCTA held on Friday.

The teachers’ association maintained that it is a tragedy that college teachers have been “compelled” to go for agitations for the 7th time. The agitations launched by FEGOCTA since September, 2019 demanding the implementation of national policy of UGC Pay and UGC Regulations, 2018 is unprecedented in history, it added.

Stating that for FEGOCTA implementation of national policy of UGC is key to transforming the present disturbing collegiate education in Manipur, the teachers’ association, FEGOCTA once again appealed to all the concerned authorities to act fast and avoid disturbance in academic activities in the colleges in Manipur.
