Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland T John Longkumer on Friday disclosed that 2,338 Covid-19 cases were recorded in Nagaland police department out of which 2,291 personnel recovered while 11 personnel were victims of Covid.

He disclosed this during a distribution programme of COVID-19 medicines and supplement kits to all units under the police department in Nagaland and also launching of a booklet titled “Clinical Management Protocol: COVID-19” sponsored by Nagaland Police Risk Insurance Scheme (NPRIS), PHQ, held on Friday at Police Headquarter, Kohima.

He said that the recovery rate was excellent and gave credits to the unit commanders and senior officers who have instilled COVID SOPs and protocols in their units to stop the spread of Covid in the barracks.

Longkumer added that the police department was the first department in the state to undertake vaccination drives apart from the medical department and appealed to all who are not vaccinated to be vaccinated, which would be good for all to stop the spread.

He also mentioned that since Covid pandemic started, the police personnel became the frontline workers to see that the law and order enforced in the state were followed, helping the people by setting up a 1,000-bedded quarantine centre in Ganeshnagar, Dimapur, and also creating 100-bedded Covid care hospital at Chumukedima.

Earlier after releasing the book, the DGP said that the programme was successful due to the combined efforts of the senior officers of the police department who have looked for ways and means to deal with the Covid issues in all the units of the State and procuring medicines and supplement kits directly from the manufacturers from Delhi.

It may be noteworthy to mention that the programme was initiated to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state and to ensure some basic precautions for the personnel and their families especially in far flung areas of the state.

The department along with its welfare society Nagaland Police Risk Insurance Scheme (NPRIS) has initiated COVID emergency fund from NPRIS and has sanctioned Rs.35 lakh to the department for procurement of Covid-19 medicines and supplement kits.
