A 14 year old boy was hurt in an attack by a stray buffalo in the heart of Ukhrul Town. The incident happened at around 12:05 pm on Wednesday at Gandhi Circle, Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
The injured boy has been identified as Zingran Muinao son of Ken Muinao of Ngainga village. He was rushed immediately to Comprehensive Health Services and Research Centre (CHSRC) at Hamleikhong for treatment and later discharged in the evening.
Aso Chihui who was on the spot informed this correspondent that “the stray buffalo came charging from the southern side of Ukhrul Headquarters heading towards the Community Road. He shouted to alert the people on the street. Unfortunately, the stray buffalo hooked Zingran Muinao’s jacket with its horn. He was dragged about 30 feet by the buffalo. The boy finally escaped when his jacket tore away from the horn.”
Aso Chihui and friends immediately took the boy to CHSRC. There were bruises all over his body. It has been reported that the boy has suffered no internal injury. He was discharged later in the evening.
Aso Chihui also informed the Ukhrul Police about the incident. The Ukhrul police immediately responded and went after the buffalo. After chasing for about one hour, the police finally put it down in a secluded place, since the buffalo was running berserk. The Police are yet to identify the owner of the buffalo while filing this report.
This is not the first time that stray buffalo are creating havoc and causing injury to people in Ukhrul Headquarters. Last year, a stray buffalo ran amok and injured an old lady.
