Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was born on 25 September 1916 at Mathura. All over India, BJP party is celebrating this very day to honour and inculcate the spirit, ideology and political philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Accordingly, the BJP party of Ukhrul District Sunday organised 105th birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyaya at its Office at Ukhrul Headquarters.
Past leaders of BJP from Ukhrul District, Danny Shaiza and Chihanpam RN were also remembered during the observance programme. Intending BJP MLA candidates from 43-Phungyar, 44-Ukhrul and 45-Chingai Assembly Constituencies participated in the celebration.
Speaking at the occasion, Retired IAS, Ningam Chamroy, intending BJP candidate from 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency stated that “The ultimate aim of the Government is good governance. Governance for the welfare of the people is the sole aim and objective of good governance. And this is the duty of every Karyakartas by emulating the sacrifice and principle of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. I have great confidence in the ruling government, and that is the reason why I joined the party. Nation first, party second and self is the last is the mantra of this Government. Let us walk unitedly to achieve our goals of self-reliance. We have economic, social, political and administrative issues, and most importantly we have humanity issues. This needs to be deliberated and thoroughly understood before we choke out our roadmap.
“Why are we celebrating the 105th birthday of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya? Was it because the party has imposed us to celebrate or are we celebrating because of our understanding? This needs to be questioned and reasoned together. As per my understanding, not only Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, whoever has sacrificed his self-interest, and as God’s signature who has rendered his selfless service for the betterment of mankind, we need to honour such persons irrespective of Meitei, Mayang, Naga or Tangkhul. We should consider such selfless leaders as someone who has been sent by God to give magnanimous service to mankind. And that is the reason why we are gathering here today and celebrating his birthday. Though short-lived, his philosophy, his exemplary life during the British rule, to unchain from the Britishers and serve the motherland by uplifting the town trodden society through his “Integral Humanism” should be emulated by one and all. We cannot cut off our hands because there is some wounds in the hand but nurse and heal the wound as a healthy body as a whole is the idea of Integral Humanism.
“When there is discrimination, when there is trembling of our rights, there is no future for us. Self-Governance is the need of the hour. To do this we must identify the demand driven requirements and request the Government to address the demand-driven in nature. Like Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, let us dedicate and serve the nation. Let us also fact check, where are we now? Where are we the Tangkhuls now? Where will we go? Who will lead us? Technically, are we qualified enough as candidates and as followers? How do we go about need in-depth discussion and rethinking? Let this celebration not go in vain.”
Former Deputy Speaker, Ex-MLA of 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency and intending candidate, Preshow MK Shimray stated that “Ukhrul District BJP should lead in the front unitedly in spite of our many differences. Selflessly, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya has worked and sacrificed for the back trodden society and today the present Government under the Prime Ministership of Modi is translating his long cherished dreams. Development must come peacefully in our place. Forgiveness and adjustment within the party will be one of the factors that will enable BJP to shine in Ukhrul District. Self-sustenance is the core idea of BJP. After self-sustaining ourselves, it is the duty of every Karyakartas to serve the people. There might be many intending candidates, our sole aim is to serve the people and we will support and abide by the decision taken by the party at a higher level. For 4 and half years, the BJP-led Government has taken care of the people, we must defeat the propaganda going against the BJP by sharing the truth. We will stand for the rights of the tribal communities and must ensure development through political and peaceful means. I am ready to resign if the rights guaranteed by the constitution are denied to the tribal communities. We need to lobby and convince the leaders to give us our rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India. BJP is not for individuals, it is for everyone, it is an inclusive party, therefore we must all rise together as one to serve the people in our own capacities.”
Former MLA of 45-Chingai Assembly Constituency and intending candidates, Khashim Ruivah stated that “We observed this very important day to emulate his teaching and practices. If we follow the teaching and principles of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, the BJP Party would be a vibrant party even in Ukhrul District. With full determination, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya had worked for the cause of the nation and had brought success, we must exactly follow the same principle for the well-being of our people.”
Former ADC Member and BJP intending candidates from 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, Mark Luithing stated that “The struggle and suffering of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya is a great example for all of us. The works and accomplishments of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya should be a driving force for every Karyakartas to leave a footprint in this political structure. The rise of BJP in Ukhrul District has a history of suffering and struggle. Being the lone elected Members of BJP Party in the last election of ADC-Ukhrul, I also have faced similar struggles and sufferings. Let us emulate the lifestyle and philosophy of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and let also work so that others will not misinterpret BJP Party as anti-Christian.
In charge of the Election Management Department of Ukhrul and Kamjong and intending BJP candidate from 43-Phungyar Assembly Constituency, Somi Awungshi stated that “All intending candidates must be united and come together under one common vision and target. We have suffered enough because of our disunity. The candidate as an individual cannot win the election without the support of BJP Karyakartas. The BJP Manipur Pradesh must also show active support to the party in Phungyar, Ukhrul and Chingai assembly constituencies. After 2022 election, it is the wish and desire of every Karyakartas to have a meeting at this office with BJP MLAs.”

Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya started full-time work in the RSS from 1942. After completing second-year training in the RSS Education Wing, Upadhyaya became a lifelong pracharak of the RSS. For 15 years, he remained the outfit’s general secretary. He wrote a drama on Chandragupta Maurya, and later wrote a biography of Shankaracharya. Integral humanism was a set of concepts drafted by Upadhyaya as political program and adopted in 1965 as the official doctrine of the Jan Sangh. Integral Humanism was adopted as Jan Sangh’s political doctrine and its new openness to other opposition forces made it possible for the Hindu nationalist movement to have an alliance in the early 1970s with the prominent Gandhian Sarvodaya movement going on under the leadership of JP Narayan. This was considered to be the first major public breakthrough for the Hindu nationalist movement.
