With 39 fresh COVID-19 reports, active cases in Manipur surge to 190

In the past twenty-four hours, 39 persons were tested COVID-19 positive in Manipur, of which three are from the central armed police force. There were no reports of death, according to COVID-19 Common Control Room on Saturday.

With these fresh cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases surged to 190 in Manipur, of which 169 are from the general population and 21 are from central security personnel.

The cumulative number of positive cases stands at 29,649, while 376 lives have reportedly been claimed by the deadly virus.

Air passengers who travelled to the state on – April 15 by Air India flight Al-713 in rows 3-9 have been urged to inform the Common Covid Control Room 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately.

Meanwhile, as a precaution, the Manipur Government has banned entry to the state without showing COVID negative test results from Sunday. “All persons entering Manipur, whether by air or by road, and irrespective of place of origin, shall be allowed entry only on mandatory production of a negative RT-PCR/ TrueNat/CB-NAAT COVID-19 test report taken within 72 hours from arrival in Manipur,” said an order issued by the Health Department.

Night curfew from 8 pm to 4 am has also been imposed in the state daily. The number of infections has increased exponentially in the last fortnight necessitating many states to impose partial lockdown and night curfews to reduce unnecessary movement and intermingling of people, said an order by the Home Department on Friday.

The curfew is exempted for – all goods carrier vehicles including medical oxygen; all essential service establishments like pharmacies, clinics, hospitals, power supply, Public Health Engineering, municipal offices engaged in cleaning, Fire Services and medical oxygen manufacturing plants; all personnel of the establishments mentioned previously including that of Veterinary services, and all government officials who have been assigned specific duties of Covid-19 management or other emergency services.

All the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) / District Magistrates (DMs) have also issued orders to enforce these measures.

In case of emergencies and for persons who want to take out procession for marriage, funeral etc., applications may be made to the DCs / DMs or the Superintendent of Police (SP) of the concerned districts for permission. These processions have been prohibited without written permission from the authorities.
