Pettigrew College is the only Government co-education institute in Ukhrul District. Established in 1965, in memory of Rev. William Pettigrew, the first Christian missionary who came to Manipur and introduced formal education among the Tangkhuls for the first time in 1896.

In a small yet meaningful programme held on Wednesday at the compound of Pettigrew College, Khashim Vashum, Minister of Transport, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, Government of Manipur handed over Manipur State Transport (MST) bus to the authority of Pettigrew College. The handing over programme was also attended by MLA of 44-Ukhrul Assembly Constituency, Ram Muivah, Director of Transport, Manipur, Dr. Nivedita Lairenlakpam, Principal of Pettigrew College, KAS. Soreishang and Vice President of TNL, Tuisem Kamkara.
Minister Khashim Vashum lauded the initiative of CM N Biren Singh by fulfilling the long cherished dreams of the Pettigrew College for providing the much needed bus service for the students and staffs. He also extend his heartfelt gratitude to Director and Commissioner of Transport Department, Manipur for their concern and support.
Minister Khashim Vashum wishes every students who is going to travel in the bus a successful career. Minister Khashim Vashum also gifted Rs. 25,000 to the college authority for initial management of the bus service.

Run as private college for 12 years, it was finally taken over by Government of Manipur in 1977. Affiliated to Manipur University, it is under process for NAAC accreditation. Pettigrew College has a spacious campus of 26 acres and quite sufficient for building infrastructures, play ground hostel for boys and girls and other facilities. Located at Meizailung, about 6km to the north of Ukhrul Town and well connected by road.
