As part of the observation of the International Women’s Day, a collection of short stories by Thoibi Devi titled “Adhikar Amasoong Khangatlaba Wari Macha Khara” will be released on Tuesday and distributed to the women vendors and students free of cost.

The Waikhom Mani Girls’ College Students’ Union, The Readers Collective and Thoubal Keithel Phambi Mathak Makha Apunba will observe the day at Thoubal Keithel on Tuesday.

A joint statement urged women to break the shackles that bind and oppress women and march towards an egalitarian society on this women’s day.

It also narrated how women’s day came to be, after around 15,000 women started a march in 1908 in the United States, towards New York, demanding to shorten the working hours, raising wages and voting rights amongst others. After such struggles, women’s day was observed widely in the then Soviet Union.

The joint statement also recalled that the women of Manipur, along with workers, rose up against the affluent section of people after the second Nupi Lan.

Stressing on the rising inequality in the society, it maintained that the government endorsed the system where people, and women in particular, are oppressed, in the name of wealth creation.
