The duo had been missing since August 4, 2021. They were found dead in a highly decomposed manner inside a bush on the river bank of the Ihang on the outskirt of southern Sinakeithei on August 8, 2021.

The Tangkhul Civil Societies while strongly condemning the brutal murder of Thotreichan Kashung and Naosomi Lungleng of Sinakeithei Village, have resolved not to take back the bodies of the duo until those responsible are arrested.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting held on Tuesday. The Tangkhul Civil Societies in their joint press statement strongly condemn the brutal murder of Thotreichan Kashung (31 years), son of Mothang Kashung and Naosomi Lungleng, (29 years) son of (late) Lightson Lungleng. The statement stated that such an act could cause communal misunderstanding and disturb the existing communal harmony.
Civil Societies of Tangkhul community urged upon District Administrations of Ukhrul and Kangpokpi to arrest the assailants at the earliest, and until such time, the civil societies of Tangkhul have resolved not to claim the bodies even after post mortem.
“From the horrific nature and extent of their injuries, it is clear that their murder was executed in the most cold-blooded, barbaric and preplanned manner” stated the press statement signed by TNL president Hopingson A Shimray.
The Civil Societies of Tangkhul community have called upon and appealed to the Government of Manipur and concerned law enforcing agencies to take all necessary action at the earliest before the situation escalates and snowballs into unwanted law and order problems. It also demanded that befitting justice is delivered at the earliest as in accordance with law and the surviving dependents of the victims are compensated with suitable ex-gratia payment.
On August 8, 2021, the chairman of Sinakeithei Village, Kachang Phungmi reported the death of two persons from their village and for investigation of the same at Litan Police Station. A copy was made available to this correspondent.
The report mentioned that the two individuals, both residents of Sinakeithei village “who have been missing for the last 4 days since August 4, 2021, were found dead in highly decomposed manner today inside a bush on the river bank of the Ihang at the southern Sinakeithei outskirt at around 3 pm today, the 8th August, 2021.”
They were last seen on August 4, 2021 at Dongshum village, Kangpokpi District, around 4 Km south of Sinakeithei village. They were dropped at Dongshum by a jeep belonging to one Bira who is also a resident of Sinakeithei village between 9-10 am. Bira was on his way to Imphal and had given lift to the two deceased.
Accordingly, the Litan Police registered FIR No. 11(8) 2021 LTN P.S. under Section 302 IPC.
The chairman of Tangkhul Naga Zingtun Longphang (Tangkhul Western Union), Yurthing Kasar on August 9, 2021 also submitted a petition to the deputy commissioner of Ukhrul, in connection to FIR No. 11(8) 2021 LTN P.S. u/s 302 IPC seeking for immediate arrest of the person(s) responsible for their death and to prevent untoward situation.
Litan Police informed that post mortem of the bodies were carried out on Tuesday at JNIMS. According to reliable sources, one of the deceased has an injury on the head and the other on the stomach.
