Underscoring the Oxygen crisis in Manipur, Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) on Monday said that COVID-19 have claimed many lives due to shortage of oxygen in the state. Even though oxygen cylinders are imported, the functioning Oxygen plants in the state are unable to make up for the shortages, it added.
MSF, in a release, contended that although some individuals and organisations from outside and within the state are lending their support, there is much to be done to make sure that there are no Oxygen shortages in the state. In view of this the student body urged the state government to take prompt action to mitigate the problem.
Maintaining that the poor are unable to bear the expenditure for tearing COVID-19, the student body also appealed to the state government to fix the rate of medical expenditure for COVID-19, as it has been done for essential commodities. An expert committee should be set up and look into the matters, it added.
MSF also opined that time has come for a united fight against the dreaded virus along with state government, CSOs, student bodies, local clubs, Meira Paibi groups, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, amongst others.
The student body also condoled the demise of frontline workers and health care workers, including Dr Richard Doumei of JNIMS and Dr Jodhachandra Sanasam.
