The BJP had accused the Congress that ruled Manipur for 15 years, of indulging in unbridled corruption and of killing innocent people. The party is now roping in Congress MLAs without compunction, says CPI leader Sotinkumar.

Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council has slammed the BJP led Manipur government, calling it a “shameless” government formed by legislators who change parties at the drop of a hat. Such practices have put the state in an uncertain mode, it added.
The left party observed the 73rd foundation of the Communist Party of Manipur on Monday at Irawat Bhavan, Imphal. Members of the party paid floral tribute to the bust of Irawat inside the office complex.
Stating that there are people in the government who are accused of indulging in contraband drugs-related cases and change political parties for their own gain, CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Sotinkumar said that such a government would not work for the welfare of the people.
Sotinkumar further said that as the people of state started believing in the communist ideology, under the leadership of Lamyanba Irabot, the Communist Party of Manipur on August 23, 1948 at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak. Under Marxism and Leninism, the communist party has been at the forefront in fighting for the welfare of the state — the inclusion of Manipuri language in 8th Schedule, AFSPA issue, development of arts and culture, sports, etc.
Pointing out the all too palpable underdevelopment of the state, Sotinkumar said that as drug cartels started joining politics, the state is plagued with drugs related issues.
The BJP used to accuse the 15 years of Congress regime of corruption and of killing innocent people, he said, yet the BJP is now buying those MLAs. Based on ‘self-interest’, these politicians jump ships. What can we expect from such people, he asked.
The CPI state secretary also lashed out at the present government, stating that its neoliberal policies devastated the poor. It has led to price rise, fertilizers crisis, rise in the unemployment rate, etc. Not a single project has been fully completed, he said and added that people have to teach them a lesson in the upcoming 2020 state general election.
Announcing that the party will start campaigning for a free and fair election, he urged the people to elect good leaders for a peaceful future.
The day was also observed in Kakching, Bishnupur, Kumbi and local councils.
