TFM Report

As investigation over the killing of two individuals on Sunday night at Samurou is going on, mystery shrouds the circumstances and motive behind the killing.

The joint action committee formed after a public meeting on Monday has also decided not to accept the bodies if the state fails to provide relevant information on the incident in a proactive approach.

The JAC also resolved to launch further action if the facts of the killing are not furnished within 48 hours, from 10 am Monday.

The two individuals — Abujam John (51) is said to be an active worker of minister O Lokhoi, who is also the local MLA, and Abujam Sashikanta (36) aka Tomba is a havildar of IRB and is serving as a special commando of Manipur police — were shot at by unidentified persons near Machu Cinema Hall at Samurou, 9 pm. Both of them are residents of Samurou Awang Leikai.

After hearing three gunshots, the locals came out and found the two laying a few metres apart sustaining bullet injuries, according to locals.

While John was rushed to Advanced Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 10.30 pm, Tomba was reported dead at Raj Medicity early Monday, as per reports. John sustained two bullet injuries and Tomba, one.

According to the locals, Tomba went out after having dinner to meet John, who is his relative.

At the time of reporting, the type of gun used in the crime has not been revealed nor any report of police identifying any suspects.

Meanwhile, Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh along with minister O Lukhoi visited the families of the victims Monday morning.

Speaking to media persons, CM Biren strongly condemned the killing and claimed that it was an attack on BJP supporters. The government will not remain silent until the perpetrators are arrested, he said.

An FIR has been lodged at Wangoi Police Station and investigation is going on. A police team on Monday visited the spot where the killing occurred and interacted with the locals and collected information as part of the investigation.
