Taking a dig at the much touted “Go To Village” programme of the government, Gaikhangam maintained that what people actually want is development and not traveling “here and there” for publicity.

Former chief minister O Ibobi Singh on Wednesday asserted that if the BJP led state government thinks the law and order situation in the state have improved then why not remove the disturbed areas status rather than extending it. He recalled that during the Congress regime the disturbed area status was removed from seven assembly constituencies.
Ibobi was speaking at a One-Day Political Conference at Lilong, organised by Lilong Block Congress Committee and Syed Anwar Hussain, co-opted PCC member and an intending candidate from Lilong assembly constituency.
Ibobi further maintained that his Congress government during its tenure bifurcated a separate directorate for the welfare of the minority section of the state. The government should tell the people whether it is functional or not, he added.
“Our forefathers made our Constitution keeping in mind the diverse cultures and religions of the country so that the people will stay united in peace and harmony,” he said.
Maintaining that the principle of Congress party is such that it is impartial towards any minority, majority or weaker section or any religion, he asserted that BJP’s biasness and partiality can be seen as there is no representative for the minorities and women.
Speaking on the occasion, MPCC president N Loken questioned what BJP has done for the development of Lilong Constituency in their tenure of four years and eight months.
“In democracy, people are the actual head and the representatives are the public servants,” he added.
CWC member Gaikhangam asserted that the BJP led state government cannot even complete the developmental work initiated by the Congress.
Taking a dig at the much touted “Go To Village” programme of the government, he maintained that what people actually want is development and not traveling here and there for publicity.
