Imphal East police on Thursday detained the vice president of the JD (U) state unit and an intending candidate of Kshetrigao assembly constituency. However, he was released later in the evening.
JD (U) state unit vice president Wahengbam Rojit (42), also known as ‘Bullet’ of Porompat Thawan-thaba Leikai was contacted by the superintendent of police, Imphal East on Wednesday to come to Porompat Police Station. As Rohit went to the police station on Thursday, he was detained.
Supporters of Rojit thronged the Porompat PS as the news of his detainment spread.
Rojit had some heated argument, over the phone, with a worker, Hijam Premkumar, of the present MLA of the area, Nahakpam Indrajit on October 11 over organising an election campaign meeting for the local MLA in the locality of Rojit, according to Chandra Nongthombam, the head of the JD (U) Kshetrigao AC unit.
Chandra said that the matter was resolved after Rojit apologized to the worker in front of the local club and Meira Paibi. No FIR has been registered at the time of filing this report, according to him.
